the breaking of the board....
Ahhhhh, the breaking of the board.
So Miss Hannah had her second testing day for Tae Kwon-do on Saturday - 9am. (Testing is every 3 months). She woke up pretty nervous since for this belt she had to break a board.
The testing starts off with form for each level - white, yellow, green tip and green belts all were testing. After form, each belt did freesparing. Then it was board breaking time. Hannah looked like she had the flu - pale faced and scared.
The white belts were called forward - no board breaking for them at that level. Yellow belts were called - Hannah was the only one. So they pulled out a board, held it up, had her run and do a flying sidekick to break it. First one she hit it high. The Master asked - "Do you want it higher?" "Yes, Sir" . So they raised it a little, and off she went. Snapped it in half - BAM!! I gasped, Hannah looked shocked then really really happy. Note - they are given three tries to break. If they cannot do it in 3, no more chances till the next test in 3 months. I also have no pictures - I was afraid of making her nervous and she told me the camera was too loud.
There was only one more to break a board - a green belt had to do a standing break (versus running break). He got his on the first try! Test over. Hannah very very excited that she accomplished the hardest part - board breaking!
And here is her board in 2 pieces. It has been shown off very proudly around Denver this weekend, and dated with the kick noted on it - for a keepsake.
I am not sure about the goony look on her face though.....

sunrise...
As I was leaving for work yesterday am.....sun was rising.....lake was sooooo orange and bright....ran inside and grabbed my camera...... and this is what I got......
In other news - 2 days of 80 degrees and all the Bradford Pears have popped out in bloom. Went to work this am - no blooms. Return home at 3pm and all the trees on our road were 50% full of white blossoms. Wow.

weekly roundup....
Weekly catchup...
-We went to see Holes at the Children's Theater in Charlotte last night. It was a great production geared for 8+ years. Hannah has read the book and really enjoyed the play. But it got us home late especially with DST the next am.
-We had to be a church at 8am today. With daylight savings time, that was 7am. Argh. I need a nap....And we go back at 4:30 to cook....I really need a nap.
-It is 70 degrees here today. 70+March=Allergies for me. So I got out and sneeze, stay in and wish I was out.....Claritin holds it at bay...but still....
-Planted my winter lettuce yesterday....probably about 2 weeks late but better late than never (I hope).
-Chris is working on installing kitchen cabinets in the basement. Therre is much growling going on...something about a bad cut and taking all day to correct it...
-We had a tragedy on the lake right behind us this week. On thurs. evening, one of our neighbors saw a boat going round and round in a circle. He pulled out his binoculars and say 2 heads in the water, called 911 and jumped into his pontoon. By the time he got there, only one person was found. They gave up the rescue at 10pm Thurs and have been working on body recovery since. As of this morning, they are still searching. So we have had helicopters, tons of rescue boats, news cameras and lookers for a few days. Luckily most of it is centered behind us, not in front, so we probably do not have to worry about someone floating up at our dock, but still....it reminds you to be safe on the water. This guy was trying to do power slides in his brand new power boat and ended up with he and his financee in the water instead. Not safe boating.
-So we have a busy week ahead of us. Lets see - teacher conference on Monday, TaeKwonDo on Tues and Thurs, orthodontist on Wed., consignment sale on Friday, Tae Kwon Do testing on Sat am and out with friends on Sat eve then usher at church on Sun am. No time to blog, that is for sure ......we are supposed to have 70-75 degree weather which will just make us all smile!
Have a good week all!
