chris and the gps....
On Saturday, we went to Tobaccoville, NC for a graduation BBQ for Chris' niece Brandy. She was celebrating college graduation (finally!), her pregnancy and also wanted her family to meet the hubby's family since they have been married over a year and the families have not met.
En route, we thought we would stop and look at patio furniture in Statesville.
So, I pull out the GPS to get us to both locations. Now, I have travelled with the GPS and gotten where I wanted to go but Chris has not used it. And Chris, remember, is not very good at blindly following directions.
So.....we get started. The gps sends us on a small windy route but it seems pretty quick. Chris had decided on a different routebut decided to be adventurous and follow the GPS. So i had to listen to him commenting the entire way on the pros and cons of the gps. My way may have taken longer but it was straighter, less turns, less windy, etc....
THEN IT HAPPENED. The gps made a mistake.
It told us to make a right on Bandy then left on Gabriel. But there was not a Gabriel. It was Sherrils Ford Rd. There IS no Gabriel. So we missed the turn, it tried to correct us and send us down a dead end road. NOT GOOD.
Now Chris was not commenting but shouting - at me. I tried to tell him to go back and take Sherrils Ford Rd. So he finally did - after I told him to stop yelling at me. As long as we ignored the fact that we were not driving on Gabiel but SF Rd. the GPS did fine and got us to the patio furniture store then on to Tobaccoville with no problems. BUT CHRIS NO LONGER TRUSTED IT. He kept saying "I can't just blindly follow something that might mess up again". Argh. I was a mess by the time we arrived. Chris had no clue that he was complaining, whining and grumbling the entire way. I could not wait to get out of that car.
So, on the way home, I let him navigate. We did check the gps first and decided to go a different route because of NASCAR race traffic in town.
And next time.....maybe i will save the gps for when I am travelling without him. Not worth the aggravation. I forgot to factor in the Chris factor - sometimes he just has to be the one in control. Like when he is driving.

anniverary weekend...
So we went to Blowing Rock (with the child) for a romantic getaway for the big 2-0 anniversary weekend.
We had a grand time, the weather was perfect - well maybe a little windy - and the condo was nice - well, we almost got car sick getting up the mountain - but we had a grand time.
We spent Saturday on Grandfather mountain, hiking and enjoying the scenery, visiting the nature museum and mile high bridge. Then on to Banner Elk to find a dinner spot, cruise the town and go jewelry shopping. Yes, there was a jewelry store so Chris decided I should look at for a new wedding ring. Found one I loved.....not sure if I want to pay the price for it though - kind of pricey!

what's wrong with your mothers face.....
so.....as you know, I have cut back my hours at the realty office - going in a few hours, a few days a week. With this extra time, I have been trying to exercise in the am. Sometimes before hannah goes to school, sometimes after I drop her off. At any rate, i am normally sans makeup, stringy haired and probably stinky in the morning for the commute to school.
So - the other morning - my little 6yr old car pooler gets in the car and I hear her whisper to Hannah "What's wrong with your mother's face??"
I start laughing and tell her it is just Mrs. Fritts without any makeup.

aaaahhh...mothers day...
So, mother's day. We had great plans for mothers day. Quite a few months ago, all the Fritts kids decided to get together in the mountains and have a bbq/picnic for mothers day. Let all the little cousins run wild, get to speak to each other without a table or waiter in the way and really enjoy the day. But....Chris' Aunt D'Ann had another stroke about 2 weeks ago and his parents have been sooooo busy with ICU - doctors - hospitals - rehab - insurance - etc.... They are worn out and canceled the day. Maybe everyone come to our house? Well, it did not work out. Chris' folks just wanted to get home to their own house and their own beds. Cannot blame them at all.
Which made our mothers day my choice. And what did I choose? Well, we went to church. And opened some presents from Miss H and a risque card from the hubby (mom - what is a sex goddess???) And planted my new herbs from the farmers market. And went out on the boat for nachos and beer. No Nachos, no beer but I settled for chicken quesidallas (sp?) and iced tea. Then some fishing down at the dock. Then dinner where I did not have to cook at all. And and evening walk to settle dinner. Not too bad, not bad at all. Enjoyed every minute of it.
And next week being the monumentous occasion of our 20th anniversary - we are heading out for a romantic weekend (ha ha - with the kidlet) to Blowing Rock/Boone in the NC mountains. But it is a getaway, it means no cooking and it means going someplace new for us. So we are all excited. I am planning on getting a new "wedding" ring for my anniversary but that means jewelry shopping and I am just not up for it right now. Sometime I will be in the right place, find the right ring and buy it. I guess I should add if it is the right price - I am married to a frugal sort of guy you know.
And I cannot end a mothers day post with out a huge HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to my numero uno, the bestest of the best, my very own MOM! I wish I could see her today but luckily we will all be together in a month! Happy happy day mom!

and then there were granite counter tops...
Granite counter tops installed in the basement this week. Monday, the remainder of the appliances come. Later in the week, the electrician will finish up wiring changes. Then tile backsplash. Then the large project of getting the cork on the floor......
farmers market in Denver...
Today was the second saturday for a farmers market in Denver. Last Saturday it rained so that one should not count. It is being held in the school parking lot so it is only 4 miles from the house. I went by today and bought STRAWBERRIES! Not real large - our cool spring weather kept them small - but this should be enough for a pie!
Then I got some herbs - purple basil, lime basil, reg. basil and cilantro. Then some organic pork sausage for Mr. Chris. Then I stop and bought a bouquet of flowers from a little Laotian man from Lincolnton with 6 acres of flowers and a couple green houses. he grows everything he sells and if you bring a vase he will arrange the flowers for you.
Not alot of vendors but if people will come, more vendors will come. And if more vendors will come then more people will come. And as the weather warms, more local produce will be available.
This is very cool!

nothing was broken....
So thursday am - we are hanging outside before school starts - waiting on the carpool to arrive. Hannah is riding her Razor scooter around the driveway and sidewalk.
"Hey - let me ride that thing" I tell her.
I go up and down the sidewalk. Then I see the carpool arriving so I head into the garage. Somehow I manage to let the front wheel hit a spot where 4 slabs of concrete meet. The scooter stops on a dime. I however, do not.
I fly thru the air, head over heels. Somehow I manage to actually perform a roll and end up on my back. Hannah is screaming, the carpool is ready to drive over me and ........I start laughing and laughing.
Nothing broken, barely scrapped up but very bruised pride.
I am getting to old for this.

my face hurts...
So today my face hurts. I have a sinus cold so my sinuses hurt. I got a temporary crown yesterday and my jaws hurt. I cannot eat hard food. I cannot bend over. I want to take a nap.
Argh.
Hannah also has a head cold. We were to run errands today after school but she is not feeling up to it so she is now on the couch watching TIVO.
I am still thinking about that nap.
Not a productive day now is it.
Maybe tomorrow my face will stop hurting.
(end of whining)
